Guess who we saw in concert last night?
If you have never seen Jody Watley in concert, you're missing out. The "Looking For A New Love" diva has not only held up fabulously, she puts on a hell of a live show!
After her performance, she graciously met with fans. I, of course did not pass up the opportunity to "talk art". She was warm and sweet and ever so charming.
Ms. Watley and I talk art as I hand her one of my prints.

Outrageously Olive!
I don't do much of this type of thing anymore, but it was suggested by my "Bikinis & Martinis" partner in crime Melisa Ricks that I do some hand-painted glasses. It seemed appropriate enough for our fun show.

Putting it Together
We hang the "Bikinis & Martinis" show on Wednesday. This is the part every artist just loves (yes, I'm being sarcastic): wiring, tagging and packing it all up to take down to the gallery.

It's Official: I Have an Agent!
Cosmopolitan Lounge
Acrylic on canvas/30x40"
SOLD
I hadn't posted about this before because I was waiting for paperwork to come back, but as of Saturday (papers in my hand) I'm officially signed with an Art Licensing Agent.
He was upfront about the effects of the economy on the art market (which I appreciate) but informed me that the Fine Art Print market continues to hold steady. Lucky for me, this is the market in which he feels my work has the most potential.
I now have to "re-visit" a number of paintings I have already sold and have the new versions professionally scanned for hi-res. Of the pieces he chose, only about 5 have not been already sold. Three of them I will have to borrow back from a gallery. I will be a busy boy getting all this together this coming month.
To be continued...

Random Thoughts on Gay Childhood
Yes, it's a wig!
When I was a child, before I knew the meaning of the word "gay" I struggled with whether I wanted to marry Lynda Carter or BE Lynda Carter.

The Best Validation
A friend of mine purchased one of my small pieces as a gift for our mutual friend's daughter. We are her long-distance "aunties". LOL! Last week I shipped it out (all the way to Australia). I received this email this morning:
Hi Auntie John,
I hope you are well. I just wanted to say thank you so much for the painting you sent me. I will thank Aunty Toni separately. I have it in my bedroom along with the postcards you sent me a while ago. It is so cool of you to send me the one I loved.
I forgot to tell mum but I had an art class last week. We are studying Feminism in Art. My art teacher (Mr Flint) was showing us slides of statues etc. I told him about you and your paintings and he was happy to take a peek at your work. Lucky I remembered your surname.
We spent the whole lesson looking at your paintings. Mr Flint said you are a huge talent and used a couple of your prints as an example for the class. Thank you again and mum thanks you too. You are the best!!!!!! You are my favourite aunty.
Love you
