Stamped Pendants

I recently received a request for a pendant with a leaf-less tree design. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to collage an image of a tree or paint it (freehand) onto the pendant. Then I remembered my pile of barely used lino-cut materials and decided to carve out this little tree stamp to introduce a new element to the Abstract Pendant designs.

Adventures in Linocutting

I still have much to learn about linocutting. I tried my hand at another image (this one based on my Guitarrita paintings). While I am not completely unhappy with the block itself I am less than thrilled with the prints I pulled from it.

I was not successful at getting even results on the paper. The print pictured above was the best of the bunch. I don't know if my results have anything to do with the type of ink (water soluble) I'm using. Perhaps parts are beginning to dry quickly, creating the lighter spots. I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of ink (not using enough) because when I added more, the prints lacked definition and just looked...well...a mess.

The experiment continues...

The First Cut

I promised myself I would wait until I was done with my current commission (which I almost am) before diving into my box of linocut goodies, but like that corny old saying goes, some promises are meant to be broken.
Last night I could no longer wait so, sitting at my desk, in front of my computer (watching linocutting tutorials on youtube), I carved my first block. There is still much for me to explore and master, but I can already tell it is a medium I will enjoy greatly! I am so excited at the possibilities that lie ahead.

I began by not carving deeply enough and using entirely too much ink.
After carving the block further and easing up on the ink here's what I achieved:
