I recently got a call from Raw Style in Santa Monica letting me know someone had purchased (put in an order) for one.
I painted the first Supermodel about 5 years ago. At the time I was very into vintage advertisements and comics (as well as contemporary fashion) and my paintings reflected those interests. I am very grateful that this particular painting has been so popular (I've re-painted and sold it 10 times!). This is also the painting of mine RuPaul owns. But, at the risk of sounding like a snobby artist, I have also grown tired of painting the same image over and over. Especially since I no longer do much work in that style.
That said, a sale is a sale, especially in this economy, so I decided to paint two at once and have one scanned professionally. It will be the last Supermodel original available. After that one is gone I will continue to sell the image in giclee form only.
I think it's a fair compromise.
